Percutaneous Catheter Drainage of Traumatic Pancreatic Pseudocyst in Childhood

Abstract
Percutaneous catheter drainage was used in a 8-year-old boy and a one and half year old boy with traumatic pancreatic pseudocyst. Dramatic relief of symptoms was observed with normalized serum amylase level and resolution of the cyst. But the
clinical
courses after catheter removal different each other even though ultrasonographic and CT findings taken during relapse of symtoms showed still complete resolution of pseudocyst. One had high fever and vomiting with maintaining normal range of
serum
amylase and the other had sudden increased of amylase level with symptoms of acute pancreatiis. Both patients needed cessation of oral feeding of short period.
The periods of catheter drainage and hospital stay was 14 and 40 days in one child and 18 and 34 days in an other child. Both children had been well on OPD follow-ups without recurrence of the cvst in serial checks with US and CT.
We think percutaneous catheter drainage is safe simple and is considered as a primary treatment method of pancreatic pseudocyst in children.
